Professional Experience

2007-2008 | Staff Writer, C-VILLE Weekly — Charlottesville, VA | www.c-ville.com

Wrote three to five news stories a week for alternative weekly newspaper, including breaking online stories. Also wrote feature-length cover stories, 3,000 to 6,000 words. Wrote book and music reviews. Developed and wrote blog, The Spiral, the first of its kind at C-VILLE Weekly.

2006-2007 | Design Editor, Phoebe, A Journal of Literature and Art — Fairfax, VA

Redesigned national journal’s website. Selected artwork and designed covers for Fall and Spring issues.

2006-2007 | Freelance Designer, Website for “Grand Avenues” (www.grandavenues.com)

Designed and created website for Scott W. Berg’s book, “Grand Avenues.”

2005-2006 | Teaching Assistant, George Mason University — Fairfax, VA

Taught English 101 and 201. Designed syllabus for a theme-based Composition course centered on the role and use of language in popular culture and students’ lives. Designed syllabus for Introduction to Literature course.

2005-2006 | Production Editor, Writing At Center — Fairfax, VA

Designed and copy edited the Writing Across the Curriculum newsletter in both print and online formats.

2004-2005 | Writing Center Tutor, George Mason University — Fairfax, VA

Worked in one-on-one setting to improve the writing of undergraduate and graduate clients. Was trained to address English as Second Language issues with non-native writers. Worked as part of a team to redesign the Writing Center website. Maintained and edited Writing Center and Writing Across the Curriculum websites.

Designed, wrote, and edited two weekly online newsletters. Trained new employees in writing for the web.  Created society’s first HTML newsletter. Maintained and copy edited website.
